Biography:
Kent Thompson was
born Feb. 24, 1949, in Hobbs, NM. He attended school in Monahans from first
grade through graduation from high school. He was active in Boy Scouts, played
football and was a Golden Gloves boxer. The oldest of four boys and three
girls, he enlisted and volunteered to serve in Vietnam.
Thompson was
assigned to the 137th Engineer Combat Co. He was killed Oct. 16, 1967. His
mother, Dorothy Thompson of Monahans, recalls that Kent always enjoyed helping
others. She said he always admired Woody Guthrie's music and his favorite was
This Land is Your Land', which concludes with the lyric "as the fog was
lifting, a voice was sounding, this land was made for you and me."
